Event Details

Our 2024 Autumn Seminar will take place from 5pm on Wednesday 11th September at Friends Meeting House in Ship Street, Brighton. The event will have the above theme and is free to all members and friends (registration is required – see below).

Dave Goulson, Leah Salm and Ruth Urbanowich are our celebrated and well-known guest speakers and experts.

DAVE GOULSON – Professor of Biology at the University of Sussex.

Dave Specialises in the ecology and conservation of insects, particularly bumblebees. He is the author of several books, including Bumblebees: Their Behaviour and Ecology (2003), The Garden Jungle (2019), Silent Earth: Averting the Insect Apocalypse (2021), and more than 200 academic articles. In 2006 he founded the Bumblebee Conservation Trust, a charity that aims to reverse the decline in the bumblebee population.

Back in 2019 Dave presented ‘Gardening to save the planet’ at our first Forum Spring Seminar. Feedback from this was excellent and we are very much looking forward to seeing him again.

LEAH SALM University of Greenwich

Leah is a PhD Researcher who is currently focused on Brighton & Hove community food production. She specialises in sustainable urban agriculture and biodiversity in urban green spaces. Leah is currently leading the bite-sized-biodiversity project which is working closely with 30 sites across Brighton & Hove to build a fact-based view of bio-diversity across the city.

RUTH URBANOWICH – Brighton & Hove Organic Gardening Group (BHOGG)

Ruth has been working with BHOGG for a number of years and will be telling us about how their hands on experience with organic gardening and food production.
