The Liz Williams Butterfly Haven was the first site in SE England to be ecologically engineered to modify the topography of chalk downland, which in turn manipulates the microclimate for targeted early successional butterflies. To date 89% of all the butterfly species recorded in our city have been recorded on this half a hectare site. The project has been the template for all other such sites created within the region.
