Sussex’s Wonderful Woods Photo Competition 2021
For immediate release, August 2021
Action in Rural Sussex (AirS) is launching their very first Photography Competition, to encourage local people to visit the beautiful Sussex woodlands. The Lewes-based charity is calling on people to connect with nature, get creative and feel the benefits of time spent in the countryside. The Competition is free to enter and you have the chance to win days out, signed books by top environmental authors as well as wild flowers to plant.
Steve Lewis, head of Community Services at AirS is calling on parents to take the kids out to the woods now in summer, since the weather is nice. “Sussex has some wonderful woodlands”, he said, “and we want you to capture that beauty. What do you like to DO in the woods? We want to see your best photos of nature, but also the people you see – maybe your family hiking, biking, meditating, caring for the woods, planting new trees… whatever you see when you go down to the woods today!”
AirS has three amazing Sussex judges for this competition:
• Carlotta Luke is a Lewes based professional photographer. She specialises in fine art cyanotypes, architecture, documentary, work environments, and environmental portraits.
• Shane Stanbridge who has been a keen wildlife photographer for the last 10 years. Last year one of Shane’s photographs was selected to feature in the BBC Countryfile Calendar and also won judge’s favourite.
• Steve Lewis is a photographer who worked in developing countries for charities such as Save The Children and Christian Aid. Working for the Communities Team at AirS, Steve has a special interest in encouraging a wide range of activities in the woods, to protect our countryside for the long term.
There are dozens of woodland areas to visit which can be found using this handy guide https://www.woodlandtrust.org.uk/visiting-woods/find-woods/
We can’t wait to see the competitors’ photographs and wish everyone the best of luck!
